Invité Stuart Kendall Posté(e) 17 avril 2004 Signaler Share Posté(e) 17 avril 2004 This coin was made by order of Prince Charles Edouard Stuart, the rightful monarch of Great Britain in 1745. He invaded Britain to regain the crown for his father, James, who was then living in exile in Rome. He landed in that part of Britain that was most loyal to the Stuart kings, namely, Scotland, in 1745. He attracted a loyal gathering of Scottish clans who proceeded to defeat the English army of the usurper monarch, King George of Hanover in Germany, who was not the true king of England, Scotland and Wales. But he was eventually defeated, together with his thousands of loyal Scotsmen, at the last battle ever fought on British soil, the Battle of Culloden. The English 'Redcoat' soldiers then comitted appalling cruelties by burning entire communities in Scotland and butchering all inhabitants, women and children included. Prince Charles Edouard Stuart, 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' as he is still called by his supporters, even to this day, hid in the mountains of Scotland for six months, before eventually escaping to France. He then tried to persuade Louis XV to support another invasion of Britain, but Louis found it politically expedient not to 'rock the boat' and upset King George of England, and so there was no subsequent invasion attempt. Prince Charles ordered a medal to be struck, commemorating his invasion in 1745. You have this medal. It is rare. It is the last coin made by the true monarch of England, Scotland and Wales. The figure shown is 'Bonnie Prince Charlie', Prince Charles Edouard Stuart. Mention this name to any Scotsman, and he will buy you a large drink. Kind regards, Stuart Kendall. Is this also rare and who would be the best person to approach on value? Citer Lien vers le commentaire Partager sur d’autres sites
